VC of GB v Park Langley

23rd January 2014

This is a new fixture for the GB Vets and one which, hopefully, will become a regular annual event.

The Parklangley Club is an excellent venue with superb facilities and Malcolm Meadows was thanked for organising the match and laying on a lovely meal after the matches as well as much needed alcoholic refreshments!

Due to illness, injuries and unavailability a number of regular GB Vets members could not play. However with a last minute replacement (thanks to Brian Cane) we had high hopes of victory.

These hopes were soon dashed after a rather unfit Roger Sulley at No.3 went down 3/0 and Brian Cane at No.2, having taken the first game, succumbed 3/1. Phil Acock, standing in manfully at short notice, also went down 3/0.

Andrew Bonner at No.1 had an excellent marathon match managing to scrape a win 9/3 in the fifth and Nigel Belle at No.5 beat his long term adversary 9/6. 10/8, 9/2.

So a narrow win for Park Langley 3/2. GB Vets will be seeking revenge next year!

Full results were as follows:

Park Langley   GB Vets
Trevor Young lost to Andrew Bonner 2/3
Anthony Nickalls beat Brian Cane 3/1
Steve McIntosh beat Roger Sulley 3/0
Erdal Niyazoglu beat Phil Acock 3/0
Malcolm Meadows lost to Nigel Belle 0/3
